Jaylen Adams, Jackson, Mississippi: 28-year-old woman killed in second shooting

On Thursday, August 20, 2026, Jackson police responded to two separate, tragic shooting incidents that shocked the community. The first occurred in the early evening on Greenview Drive, where 28-year-old Jaylen Adams was pronounced dead at the scene after being shot. Officers arrived around 5:30 p.m. 


to find Adams suffering from a gunshot wound in the 3000 block of Greenview Drive. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after. Her death marked the second homicide in Jackson that day, intensifying concerns about escalating violence in the city.Several miles away, a separate incident unfolded on Interstate 220 near the Highway 80 West off-ramp. 

Authorities reported a tan Ford Crown Victoria that had crashed into a ditch, with the driver, identified as Bobby Potts, found inside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders initially managed to stabilize Potts, placing him in an ambulance for transport. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital, adding to the day's tragic toll.

Witnesses to the Greenview Drive shooting reported seeing a car drifting off the roadway, but they did not hear or observe any gunfire.
