Deven Wheat Jr., Cleveland, Ohio: Gunshot wound discovered after crash kills 27-year-old driver

A tragic incident in Cleveland unfolded Thursday evening, turning a car crash into a deadly shooting. Deven Wheat Jr., 27, died after being shot before his vehicle crashed into a utility pole near East 55th Street and Cedar Avenue. Police received a call about the crash at around 6:30 p.m., and officers responded quickly to the scene. Wheat was driving north on East 55th when his car collided with another vehicle, causing it to slam into the utility pole with force. 

The impact was so severe that Wheat and a 16-month-old child were ejected from the vehicle.The young child sustained serious injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition. Medical staff at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center confirmed that Wheat had been shot before the crash, 

with a bullet hole found in his car during subsequent checks. Despite emergency efforts and medical treatment, Wheat did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other driver involved in the collision was unharmed and walked away from the scene.The investigation quickly shifted to a homicide case due to the discovery of a gunshot wound. 

The Accident Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Unit were called in to examine the scene and gather evidence. Police are working diligently to determine what led to the shooting and the circumstances that caused the crash. As of now, no suspect has been identified, and authorities continue to seek information from witnesses or anyone with relevant details.
