Mirosław Frąckiewicz, the oldest veteran of the Polish Air Force, has passed away at the remarkable age of 104. His life was marked by extraordinary resilience and dedication to his country.
After the Polish Defensive War of 1939 ended in defeat, Frąckiewicz was exiled by Soviet forces to the depths of Siberia. Despite the harsh conditions, he persevered and in 1941, he was able to return as part of the evacuated army of General Władysław Anders.
By 1943, Frąckiewicz had been accepted into the Polish Air Force fighting in Britain, where he served with distinction in Squadron 304.
Following the end of World War II, Mr. Frąckiewicz chose to remain in the United Kingdom. There, he found a new calling in antique restoration, a profession he devoted himself to until the end of his life.
