The Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) Committee of Management extends heartfelt condolences to the family and friends, both at home and overseas, of Conor Roach, who has tragically passed away following an automobile accident in Canada.
Conor, who was just 21 years old, made a significant mark in the rally community by becoming the BRC’s youngest Champion Driver in 2013. He achieved this remarkable feat while competing in the Clubman Class with a Peugeot 106, securing victories in all but one round of the championship, including the prestigious Sol Rally Barbados, when the class boasted 10 entries.
At the conclusion of that successful season, Conor was abroad pursuing his education. Consequently, his father, Derek Roach, who himself was a distinguished Champion Driver in 1991 and 1992, accepted the awards on Conor’s behalf at the Annual Prizegiving ceremony.
Before transitioning to rally cars, Conor had already established himself as a formidable racer in the Barbados Karting Association (BKA) events. He consistently finished in the top three of the Yamaha 310 Championship year after year, ultimately winning the title in 2006. During his karting days, he engaged in many fierce on-track battles at Bushy Park with fellow racers Orry Hunte and Dane Skeete.
Rally Club PRO Neil Barnard expressed the community's deep sorrow: “We send our condolences to Conor’s family, who are in our thoughts and prayers at this unimaginably difficult time."
Conor Roach’s legacy in motorsport, marked by his early achievements and passion for racing, will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. His untimely passing is a profound loss to the rallying and karting communities.
