Fatal accident near Hamlin on Wednesday

On Wednesday afternoon near Hamlin, tragedy struck as an Audubon resident lost her life in a fatal accident at the intersection of Highway 71 and 220th Street, as reported by the Iowa State Patrol.

Sheryl Zinke, aged 73, was behind the wheel of a 1998 Buick Century, heading west on 220th Street. Meanwhile, Ross Miller, 42, from Carroll, was driving a 2008 Peterbilt 389, traveling north on Highway 71.

The collision occurred when Zinke failed to yield from a stop sign, resulting in Miller's vehicle striking hers.

Despite efforts, Zinke was pronounced dead at the scene, while miraculously, Miller emerged uninjured. Following the tragic event, Zinke's remains were respectfully transported to Kessler Funeral Home by members of the Audubon County EMS.

The Iowa State Patrol responded to the incident, providing support alongside deputies from the Audubon County Sheriff's Office. This unfortunate incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance while driving.
