Smyth County VA Shooting: Suspect At-Large After Firing at Sheriff's Deputies Near Game and Inland Fisheries on Highway 16

A suspect remains at large following a dangerous encounter in Smyth County, Virginia, where a shot was fired at sheriff’s deputies near the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries on Highway 16. 


The incident occurred during a routine patrol in the area, which quickly escalated into a high-stakes situation. Deputies were reportedly investigating suspicious activity near the state-run facility when they were confronted by an unknown assailant. 

Without warning, the suspect opened fire on the officers, prompting an immediate response from the deputies. Thankfully, no deputies were injured in the exchange, but the suspect managed to flee the scene, leading to an ongoing manhunt.

Law enforcement agencies have since launched a coordinated effort to locate the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous. Roadblocks have been established, and search teams, including K-9 units and aerial support, are combing the surrounding areas.
