Dr. Shekinah Elmore, MD, MPH, an esteemed Assistant Professor, researcher, and radiation oncologist at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, has tragically passed away. Dr. Elmore was not only a dedicated medical professional but also a passionate advocate for equity and empathy in oncology care.
Her unique perspective as a cancer survivor profoundly influenced her approach to medicine, allowing her to empathize deeply with her patients while striving to improve their care experiences. She was known for her ability to navigate the delicate balance between being a patient and a provider, a theme she eloquently discussed at TEDMED 2020.
Her insights were also featured in prominent publications such as Elemental, the Journal of the American Medical Association, and the New England Journal of Medicine, where she wrote extensively about compassionate care and managing uncertainty in medical practice.
Dr. Elmore's academic and professional journey was marked by a commitment to public health and global medicine. She earned her Master of Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, after which she contributed to the International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs in sub-Saharan Africa.

Dr. Elmore's personal life was centered in Chapel Hill, NC, where she resided with her husband, Adam Cluff, and their young son, William Isaiah.
