Murder charges have been filed against Logan Christopher Kelley, 26, of Huntington Beach, in connection with a late-night stabbing incident on the Fourth of July that led to the deaths of two men and injuries to three others.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deceased as William Thomas Collins, 47, and Eric Clayton Hodges, 42, both residents of Huntington Beach.
According to court records, Kelley faces two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, one count of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, and one count of battery on police or emergency personnel.
Additionally, Kelley is confronted with potential sentencing enhancements for personally using a deadly weapon, attempted premeditated murder, and special circumstances related to multiple murder convictions in the first or second degree.
Kelley remains in custody, and although he was scheduled for an arraignment hearing on Monday, records indicate it was canceled. It remains unclear when Kelley will appear in court or enter his plea.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. near 16th Street and Pecan Avenue in a multifamily residential complex. Police responding to the scene discovered multiple victims.
Three individuals were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, while Collins and Hodges were pronounced dead on site.
As detectives continue their investigation, police have declined to provide additional information regarding the case. The violent episode has left the community in shock and mourning as they grapple with the aftermath of this tragic event.
In a separate but potentially related incident, another stabbing occurred the same night in nearby Newport Beach, resulting in injuries to one man. Authorities have not confirmed any connection between the two incidents but are thoroughly investigating all leads.
The Huntington Beach community has been shaken by the sudden violence, and local authorities have increased their presence in the area to reassure residents and maintain public safety.
As the investigation progresses, the police urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in their efforts to uncover the full details of these disturbing events.
