PENSACOLA, Fla. -- A dramatic series of events unfolded in Escambia County on Monday evening following a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Erress Boulevard in Pensacola, near Montclair Elementary School.
After the gunfire erupted, the suspects swiftly fled in their vehicle, prompting a pursuit by deputies. The pursuit culminated on the Highway 90 Bridge at Scenic Highway, where law enforcement officers executed a pit maneuver to immobilize the suspects' vehicle.
Upon coming to a stop, the situation took a startling turn when all three suspects exited the vehicle and leaped from the bridge into the waters below.
The daring escape attempt led to varying outcomes: one suspect sustained injuries upon impact with the water, another was successfully apprehended after being pulled from the water by authorities, and a third suspect remains at large.
As of now, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office has refrained from disclosing the identities of the suspects or the specific charges they face.
Meanwhile, K-9 Streeter, a member of the sheriff's office, also leaped into action, jumping from the bridge in pursuit of the suspects. Streeter was subsequently taken to a veterinarian for evaluation.
This incident comes amidst heightened tensions following another recent drive-by shooting in the vicinity. Just last month, three individuals were injured in a similar attack on Diego Circle, marking a concerning trend in the area.
The situation continues to develop, with law enforcement actively investigating the events and pursuing leads to locate the remaining suspect.
