Leati Sika Amituana'i Anoaʻi, better known as Sika Anoaʻi or simply Sika, has passed away. He was an American Samoan professional wrestler renowned for his dynamic career and significant contributions to the wrestling world. Sika was best known as one-half of the legendary tag team The Wild Samoans, which he formed with his brother Afa. Together, they became one of the most iconic tag teams in professional wrestling history.
Throughout his illustrious career, Sika held several prestigious championships, the most notable being the WWF World Tag Team Championship, which he won multiple times alongside his brother. Their formidable presence and unmatched chemistry in the ring left an indelible mark on the sport. Recognizing his outstanding contributions and achievements, Sika was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007 and later into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2012.
Sika was born on April 5, 1945, in the village of Leone on the island of Tutuila in American Samoa. He was one of thirteen children born to Amituana and Tovale Anoaʻi. In 1959, at the age of 14, Sika moved with his family to San Francisco, California, in the United States. The relocation marked a significant turning point in his life, exposing him to new opportunities and experiences. Shortly after the move, Sika enlisted in the United States Merchant Marine, where he worked on ships sailing to the Philippines and Japan. This experience broadened his horizons and instilled a strong work ethic.
After leaving the Merchant Marine in 1969, Sika worked as a stevedore, a job that involved loading and unloading ships at the docks. However, the allure of professional wrestling, inspired by his older brother Afa's success in the ring, eventually drew him in. Sika decided to follow in his brother's footsteps and pursue a career in wrestling. This decision would not only change his life but also impact the wrestling industry profoundly.
Sika's legacy extends beyond his personal achievements. He was a proud member of the Anoaʻi family, a wrestling dynasty known for producing numerous talented wrestlers. His sons, Rosey and Roman Reigns, followed in his footsteps, becoming professional wrestlers themselves. Roman Reigns, in particular, has achieved significant success, becoming one of WWE's top superstars.
Sika Anoaʻi's passing marks the end of an era for the wrestling world, but his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. His dedication, passion, and contributions to professional wrestling have cemented his place as one of the sport's all-time greats.
