Keith Marco Redondo Beach CA Death, San Luis Cal Poly Football Player Dies From Pulmonary Embolism

The Cal Poly community is mourning the loss of Keith Marco, a junior food science major and football player, who passed away on June 5 at the age of 21. According to an email from the Vice President for Student Affairs, Marco succumbed to a pulmonary embolism.

Marco, also a cherished member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, leaves behind a legacy of dedication both on and off the field. The Mayo Clinic describes a pulmonary embolism as a serious condition caused by a blood clot that obstructs blood flow to an artery in the lung, which can be fatal if not treated promptly.

Born and raised in Redondo Beach, California, Marco's passion for football was evident from his high school years at Redondo Union High School, where he played on both the offensive and defensive lines. His talent and commitment to the sport earned him a place at Cal Poly, where he continued to pursue his athletic dreams.

At Cal Poly, Marco played as a left guard. He redshirted in 2021 and 2022, allowing him to develop his skills and adapt to the college level of play. He made his debut in a game against San Jose State on September 9, 2023, showcasing his potential and dedication to the team.
