Joseph Johnson Shooting: Cape Coral Police Investigate Attempted Murder-Suicide

On Sunday, June 2nd, 2024, at approximately 7:56 PM, officers from the Cape Coral Police Department were dispatched to a home in the 1400 block of SW 4th Ct, Cape Coral, Florida, in response to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a female with serious gunshot injuries and a deceased male at the scene.

The male has been identified as Joseph William Johnson, born April 7, 1936. Preliminary investigations suggest that Johnson used a handgun to shoot the female victim before turning the gun on himself, resulting in his death from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A suicide note found at the scene indicated Johnson's intention for both he and the victim to end their lives together.

Officers applied life-saving measures to the female victim, who was subsequently transported to a hospital where she remains in serious condition. The victim's identity has not been released at this time.

The Cape Coral Police Department has labeled this an ongoing and active investigation. Further details will be made available as the investigation progresses. The authorities are committed to uncovering the full circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Cape Coral Police Department as they continue to seek answers in this case.
