A male student was shot at West Jefferson High School in Harvey during dismissal on Thursday, the last day of school, according to authorities.
The victim, an 18-year-old student, was transported to a hospital for treatment. The condition of the student was not immediately available, said Sgt. Brandon Veal, spokesperson for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Few details have been released about the incident, which occurred around noon as students were leaving the school for the day, authorities said.
The shooting has left the school community in shock, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the event. The authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.
