Barry Davis EFC Obituary : Barry Davis Essendon Death : Australian Football Hall of Fame Member Barry Davis Dies

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Barry Davis.

A member of the Australian Football Hall of Fame and a Legend in the Essendon Football Club Hall of Fame, Barry was one of our club's greatest servants and a true gentleman of the game.

Born 1943, Barry Davis was one of the game's greats. A superb half-back flanker and later a ruck rover, he played over 200 games and contributed to Essendon's premiership victories in 1962 and 1965.

Barry captained Essendon in 1970 and 1971 and won the club’s Best and Fairest award in 1968, 1969, and 1971, finishing as runner-up in 1972. He was also twice the runner-up in the Brownlow Medal, in 1969 and 1971, and represented the state side from 1967 to 1972.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the sport, Barry was awarded Victorian Football League Life Membership in 1976 and was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2002, he was named number 15 in Essendon’s Champions of Essendon, and in 2006, he was elevated to Legend status in the Essendon Football Club Hall of Fame.

Barry was not only an amazing player but also a remarkable person. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Davis family.
