2 dead after overnight accident in Fairhope

In Fairhope, a tragic single-vehicle accident during the late hours has resulted in the loss of two lives, as confirmed by the local police department.

The incident unfolded shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from law enforcement to an overturned vehicle on S. Mobile Street, just south of Laurel Avenue.

Tragically, both the driver and the passenger were trapped inside the vehicle, which had collided with a tree and a gas line, heightening the urgency of the situation.

The gravity of the accident was further compounded by a gas leak, necessitating the evacuation of nearby residents for their safety.

Emergency responders worked diligently to free the trapped individuals while contending with the hazardous conditions posed by the leak.

Regrettably, the efforts of the responders were unable to save the lives of the occupants. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Rene Isaac Ruiz from Melbourne, Florida, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Likewise, the passenger, 23-year-old Mateo Esteban Pozo Astudillo, a resident of Fairhope, succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Thomas Hospital.

The community of Fairhope mourns the loss of these two individuals and extends its heartfelt condolences to their families and loved ones during this difficult time.
