Suicide Lancaster PA 2024 - Woman dies after falling onto Route 30 in Manheim Township

A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning when a woman died after falling from a bridge over Route 30 in Manheim Township and into traffic, as reported by the Lancaster County Coroner’s office and local police.

Manheim Township police received a distress call at 5:32 a.m. about a woman who was seen sitting on the side wall of the bridge above Route 30, near the New Holland Pike exit and the Lancaster County Country Club. Upon their arrival, officers found that the woman had already fallen into the traffic below and was struck by multiple vehicles.

The Lancaster County Coroner’s office responded to the scene and pronounced the woman dead at 6:49 a.m. The coroner has yet to determine the cause and manner of her death, and the Lancaster County Forensic Center is currently investigating the incident.

The unfortunate event led to the closure of both eastbound lanes of Route 30 for approximately two-and-a-half hours. During this time, Pennsylvania’s road monitoring website, 511PA, reported significant traffic congestion, with backups extending from the New Holland Pike exit to the Route 283 West exit, just east of the Park City Center.

Authorities are working to identify the deceased woman and are appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone who was in the area during the time of the incident is urged to contact the Manheim Township Police Department at 717-569-6401, via email at police@manheimtownshippolice.org, or through their Crimewatch webpage.
