Former South Carolina Representative Mack T. Hines passed away on Thursday, July 4th, 2024, leaving behind a profound legacy of dedication to his community and exemplary leadership. Concurrently, the Morris College Board of Trustees has appointed Reverend Dr. Mack T. Hines as Chairman, effective immediately, succeeding Dr. Charles B. Jackson, Sr. Reverend Dr. Hines has been an integral member of the board for 8 years and previously served as Vice-Chairman.

A native of Florence County, Reverend Dr. Mack T. Hines was a distinguished academic achiever, holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Allen University, a Bachelor of Divinity Degree from the former Morris College School of Religion, a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Hood Theological Seminary, and an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Morris College. His outstanding leadership in South Carolina earned him a place in the Morris College Hall of Fame.

Beyond academia, Reverend Dr. Hines was deeply committed to serving his community. He dedicated 12 years as an educator in Florence School District 1 and chaired the Wilsonian Clergy, organizing ministerial alumni of Wilson High School to support academically excellent students in financial crisis. Governor Mark Sanford recognized his service with the Order of the Palmetto in 2006 after his 12-year tenure representing District 59 in the South Carolina House of Representatives.

Reverend Dr. Hines's leadership extended to numerous roles within religious and community organizations. He served as Moderator of the Florence and Affiliated Counties Baptist, Missionary and Educational Union, Moderator of the Pee Dee Baptist Association, and President of the Mullins Area Ministerial Alliance. Currently, he actively contributes to the executive board of the Pee Dee Baptist Association and pastors the historically significant Saint Paul Baptist Church, witnessing remarkable growth under his stewardship.

Personal life was equally fulfilling for Reverend Dr. Mack T. Hines, who shared his journey with his beloved wife, Gladys Jackson of Darlington, SC. Together, they raised three sons, Mack III, Michael, and Gregory, and are blessed with three grandchildren.

Reverend Dr. Mack T. Hines leaves behind a lasting impact on South Carolina through his unwavering commitment to education, community service, and spiritual guidance. His leadership and dedication will be remembered fondly by those whose lives he touched, both locally and statewide. As he joins the ranks of those who have left an indelible mark on history, his legacy of service and integrity will continue to inspire future generations.
