His legacy is carried forward by his devoted wife of 23 years, Anita (Keltner) Zimmerman, and their cherished children, Sloan and Brody Zimmerman. Matt’s parents, Vaughn and Rebecca (Burton) Zimmerman, also survive him, along with his brother Justin Zimmerman (Jackie), nephew Jacob Zimmerman, niece Taylor Zimmerman, and a host of extended family and friends.

Matt's professional journey began at the tender age of 16, working for Wilhoit Properties and Zimmerman Properties Construction. Over the years, he played a pivotal role in constructing tens of thousands of apartment units across 17 states, becoming a respected leader in the realm of affordable housing. Known for his thoroughness, knowledge, and fairness, Matt's leadership was seasoned with a unique blend of sarcasm and humor, making him a beloved boss and mentor.

Despite his professional achievements, Matt's greatest pride was his family. He was a fervent supporter of Sloan’s accomplishments in FFA, celebrating her national successes, and a passionate cheerleader for Brody’s wrestling and drag racing endeavors.

His unwavering love for his children was evident in his daily affirmations of pride and affection. Matt and Anita shared a bond that was the cornerstone of their family, providing Sloan and Brody with a beautiful example of love and friendship to carry forward.

Friends and family fondly remember Matt for his generosity and warmth. He was an exceptional gardener, chef, and grill master, often sharing the fruits of his labor with those he loved. His kindness and zest for life left an indelible mark on everyone he met, earning him the enduring reputation of a "great guy."

Matt's passion for racing was another significant facet of his life. He poured his heart and soul into his racing team and the Midwest Drag Racing Series, including the Junior Dragster Series. His dedication bore fruit in 2018 when his team's 1969 Camaro was recognized as the world’s fastest stock-body drag race car. The car achieved an astonishing 1/8 mile race at 217 mph in 3.621 seconds.

In 2020, his team clinched victory in the Sweet 16 Race in the Pro 275 class in Valdosta, Georgia. Matt’s enthusiasm for drag racing was infectious, inspiring Brody’s budding interest in the sport. His quip, "Dad and Justin are into horses; I'm into horsepower," encapsulated his unique personality and passion.
