Paintertown Volunteer Fire Company firefighter Jacob Lazar tragically passed away after a tree fell on him while he was cleaning up storm damage in Westmoreland County. Jacob Gregory Lazar, born on March 14, 2006, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, was a remarkable young man whose life, though tragically short, was marked by dedication, service, and an adventurous spirit. Jacob, the beloved son of Gregory and Crystal (Miller) Lazar of Penn Township, was set to begin his senior year at Penn Trafford High School this fall.

Jacob was not only a diligent student at Penn Trafford High School but also an enthusiastic participant in the Construction Trades program at Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center (CWCTC). His commitment to learning and skill development was evident in his active engagement in these programs, preparing him for a promising future.

A proud member of the Boy Scouts of America, Jacob's scouting journey was exceptional. He was a dedicated member of Troop #236 at St. Barbara’s in Harrison City, where he achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout in 2023. This accomplishment highlighted his leadership, perseverance, and commitment to community service. Additionally, Jacob was a Brotherhood member of the BSA Order of the Arrow, further demonstrating his dedication to the principles of scouting and his peers.

Jacob's sense of duty extended beyond scouting. He was a committed firefighter with the Paintertown Volunteer Fire Company. Starting as a Junior Firefighter at the young age of 14, Jacob recently completed the rigorous requirements for Firefighter 1 certification. His roles included serving as a custodian for the Paintertown Fire Hall, reflecting his willingness to contribute in every possible way to his community's safety and well-being.

In addition to his firefighting duties, Jacob had just begun a summer job with Cleveland Price, a company known for its innovative electrical equipment. This opportunity was a testament to his industrious nature and eagerness to gain practical experience in a professional setting.

Jacob's compassion and sense of duty were also evident in his volunteer work. For several holiday seasons, he devoted his time to laying wreaths on the graves of veterans in local cemeteries, honoring those who had served their country.
