According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the accident occurred when Sen. Gudger's son inadvertently collided with the back of his father's Sea-Doo. The impact of the collision caused both men to be thrown into the water. Fortunately, they were both wearing personal flotation devices, which likely prevented more serious injuries.

Bystanders nearby quickly came to their aid, helping both men out of the water and transporting them to a nearby dock. Local emergency personnel evaluated them on-site, providing immediate assistance.

Sen. Gudger was subsequently flown to UAB Hospital, where he underwent surgery and is now in intensive care. A news release from the Alabama State Senate confirmed his status and the ongoing efforts of medical staff to ensure his recovery.

Troopers at the scene assessed Sen. Gudger's son and released him, as his injuries were not severe enough to warrant further medical treatment.

The Gudger family has expressed their gratitude for the quick response from bystanders and emergency personnel. They are optimistic about Sen. Gudger's recovery and are asking for privacy and prayers during this challenging time.
