Yeraldin Pardo Alexandria VA, Eli Medrano Death : Yeraldin Pardo, Eli Medrano Obituary - 3 Killed Near Lake Accotink In Springfield Train Accident

Three people were killed Wednesday night after being struck by a cargo train near Lake Accotink, according to police reports. The victims were identified as two adults and one child who were apparently walking on the train tracks above Accotink Creek, near the Accotink Park Road crossing. This tragic incident has prompted an ongoing investigation by local authorities and the Norfolk Southern Railroad Company, which operates the tracks.

The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) confirmed that all three individuals were declared deceased at the scene. The accident occurred around 8:20 p.m. on a bridge over Accotink Creek. A spokesperson for Norfolk Southern stated that the northbound train was involved in the collision and that no injuries were reported among the train crew.

Emergency responders were quickly dispatched to the scene. According to scanner traffic on Open MHz, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units were called for a “medical emergency” on the train tracks at 8:25 p.m. By 8:38 p.m., the responders had located all three victims on the creek banks under the railroad bridge.

Initial reports from the FCPD described the victims as one adult and two children. However, after further investigation, the police updated this information to reflect that the deceased were two adults and one child. “We shared preliminary information last night and as the investigation unfolded we now have the update,” the FCPD Public Affairs Bureau explained to FFXnow.

Following the incident, Norfolk Southern shut down the train tracks at 8:38 p.m. to facilitate the investigation. The FCPD and Norfolk Southern are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading to this heartbreaking event.

The community around Lake Accotink is in mourning, and the tragic loss serves as a somber reminder of the dangers associated with walking on active train tracks. As the investigation proceeds, authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols near railway lines to prevent such accidents in the future.
