Tom Hilton Jay Slater Machete Missing : Search for missing Jay Slater halted in Tenerife mountains and moves to tourist hotspots in south

The search for Jay Slater, a teenager from Lancashire who went missing in Tenerife, has undergone a significant change.

Initially focused in the mountainous region near the village of Masca since Monday, involving sniffer dogs and mountain rescue experts, the operation was redirected to the south of the island today at midday.

Specifically, the search now concentrates around the tourist resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas, closer to where Jay was staying.

A spokesperson for the Civil Guard announced at 12:30 PM local time, "The search operation has been relocated to the south of the island, specifically Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas."

While details on the reason for this shift were not disclosed, the spokesperson acknowledged, "It’s based on information received during the course of the investigation. Currently, the search in the mountainous area near Masca in the north has been suspended."

Earlier today, authorities reiterated their commitment to finding Jay, a 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer, maintaining an open-minded approach regarding his mysterious disappearance.

The search efforts involved various units including helicopter patrols, dog teams, mountain rescue units, and citizen security patrols. The operation had been concentrated in the Masca Gorge within the Teno Massif, where Jay was reported missing.

A source close to the investigation indicated, "While the possibility of Jay becoming disoriented and encountering an accident in unfamiliar terrain is considered likely, investigators continue to explore all avenues based on available clues."

Meanwhile, Jay's friend Lucy Mae, who had accompanied him to Tenerife for a rave festival, expressed growing concern over his disappearance, describing the situation as "suspicious and concerning."

The community remains hopeful for Jay's safe return as authorities pursue every lead to resolve the mystery surrounding his whereabouts.
