Carbondale Area School District shared tragic news with the community on Wednesday, announcing the passing of Emily Tropeano, a recent graduate of 2024.
Emily Tropeano passed away on Tuesday, confirmed by Larry Gabriel, funeral director at Gabriel Funeral Home.
Superintendent Holly W. Sayre expressed deep sorrow over the loss, stating, "We are devastated by this loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family."
She provided guidance on how students and parents could cope with the loss, emphasizing the importance of listening to children's thoughts and discussing their emotions and reactions during this difficult time.
Emily Tropeano graduated with academic honors on June 2 and was actively involved in the school community as a member of the cheerleading squad.
She also completed a senior internship with the City of Carbondale, showcasing her dedication and involvement.
Reflecting on Emily's contributions, Mayor Michele Bannon highlighted her commitment to the city's operations, stating, "Watching Emily immerse herself in our day-to-day operations is humbling.
She understands our mission every day is to honorably serve our residents with dignity and respect, no matter how small or large the task.”
Superintendent Sayre extended heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the entire Carbondale Area family to Emily's loved ones. Memorial services have not yet been scheduled, according to Gabriel.
In response to the emotional impact of the sudden loss, grief counselors are available at Carbondale Area Junior/Senior High School.
