Owen Simmons of Canaan, Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2024, at the age of 55. Born on October 18, 1968, Owen was a cherished member of the Canaan community, known for his warmth, generosity, and commitment to family and friends.


Owen’s cause of death was a sudden cardiac arrest, a tragic event that has left his family, friends, and community in deep shock and sorrow. 

Despite the suddenness of his passing, Owen's legacy continues through the countless lives he touched and the positive impact he made during his lifetime.

Owen was born and raised in Canaan, where he developed a deep love for his hometown and its residents. 

He graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School and went on to earn a degree in engineering from the University of Connecticut. 

Owen returned to Canaan after college, determined to contribute to the community that had given him so much.

Professionally, Owen was a skilled engineer who worked for a leading construction firm in the region. He was known for his dedication, expertise, and the mentorship he provided to younger colleagues. 

His work helped shape the local landscape, and many buildings and structures stand as a testament to his skill and dedication.

Beyond his professional achievements, Owen was a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and their three children, Emily, James, and Olivia. 
Owen’s love for his family was evident in all he did, from coaching his children’s sports teams to organizing family gatherings and vacations. He was a pillar of strength and a source of unwavering support for his loved ones.

Owen’s involvement in the Canaan community extended far beyond his professional and familial duties. He was an active member of several local organizations, including the Lions Club and the Canaan Historical Society. 

Owen also volunteered his time at the local food bank and participated in numerous community service projects, always eager to lend a helping hand.

Friends and neighbors remember Owen as a man of integrity, kindness, and boundless energy. His infectious smile and positive attitude were a constant source of encouragement to those around him. 

Owen’s sudden passing is a profound loss to the community, but his spirit will live on in the many lives he touched.

A memorial service to celebrate Owen’s life will be held on June 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Canaan Congregational Church, 10 Granite Avenue, Canaan, CT. 

The family will receive friends during a visitation at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Canaan Food Bank or the American Heart Association in Owen’s memory.
