A tragic incident unfolded Thursday evening in Murfreesboro, where a man shot and killed his girlfriend before taking his own life at a townhome, as reported by the police.

The Murfreesboro Police Department is actively investigating the incident, which resulted in the deaths of 37-year-old Margarette Barksdale and 29-year-old James Shannon. 

Authorities responded to a 911 call from neighbors and discovered the couple in an upstairs bedroom of a townhome located on Nightshade Drive around 8 p.m. Both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to preliminary investigations, it appears that Shannon shot Barksdale following a domestic altercation before turning the gun on himself.
