Michael grew up with a passion for mentoring his younger brother and cherished moments spent with his friends. He found joy in riding his Harley Davidson across the open roads, feeling the wind against his face. Winters were spent snowboarding down the slopes, and in the summers, he eagerly rode his mountain bike through the rugged Montana terrain.
In recent months, Michael found solace and strength in building his relationship with Jesus, which brought him peace and comfort during challenging times.
Michael will be remembered for his warm heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering love for life. His family and friends find solace in knowing that he is now at peace, riding through heavenly trails with a smile on his face.
Funeral services for Michael James Champagne, 23, who passed away on June 28, 2024, in Lafayette, will be held on Monday, July 1, 2024, at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille's La Fleur de Lis Chapel in Lafayette. Pastor Haydn Fabre will officiate the services.
Michael is survived by his mother, Nancy Lejeune Champagne, and her companion Travis Treadway; his father, Chad Champagne, and his wife Monica; his brother, Luke Thomas Champagne; his maternal grandfather, Carrol Lejeune; his step-siblings, Nicholas Dupre and his wife Shalei, Erin Dupre, and Hunter Dupre; as well as eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Sandra Lejeune; his paternal grandparents, Murphy James Champagne and Verna Jane Champagne; and his uncle, Carrol Lejeune Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Luke Champagne, Nicholas Dupre, Hunter Dupre, Seth Judice, and James Freeman.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Monday, July 1, 2024, from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
Special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center and The Gayle and Tom Benson Cancer Center for the love and care given to Michael and his family.
