The Clio community is mourning the loss of 16-year-old Landon Leighton, who was tragically killed in a single-car crash on Monday afternoon. The Clio Police Department reported that the accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Field Road.

Landon Leighton was a passenger in a car driven by another 16-year-old boy. As the vehicle was traveling east, it lost control while crossing a set of railroad tracks. The car veered to the right, left the roadway, and collided with a large tree. 

Following the collision, the car caught fire. Fortunately, quick-thinking passersby intervened, pulling both teens from the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames. Despite their heroic efforts, Landon Leighton succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at an area hospital. The driver, whose identity has not been released, survived the crash but is being treated for unspecified injuries.
