Katie Quinn, a cherished member of the Lyrecrompane community, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 13th June 2024. She was in the loving care of her parents at University Hospital Kerry. Katie’s untimely departure has left her family and friends in deep sorrow.
Katie will be profoundly missed by her heartbroken family, including her mother Mary, father Mike, sisters Tina and Michelle, and her adored nephew RÃan. She is also survived by her grandparents Pat and Chris, grandmother Bridget, aunts Helena, Jackie, and Trish, and her uncle Mike. Her extended family and many friends will fondly remember her.
A member of the well-known Quinn family, Katie had deep roots in the local motor sports community. Her father, Mike Quinn, is a highly respected and successful driver, as well as a director of the Kerry Motor Club. Following in her father’s footsteps, Katie made a name for herself in the world of rally driving.
Katie's journey in motorsport began in 2017 when she made her driving debut at the Garda Rally in Baltinglass, driving a Honda Civic. Prior to this, she had navigated for several local drivers, showcasing her versatility and passion for the sport. Katie quickly became a regular competitor in rally events nationwide, particularly excelling in the Top Part West Coast Championship.
Her dedication and skill were recognized when she was crowned the Women in Motorsport Ireland Rally Champion in 2019, a title she proudly reclaimed last season. Katie’s achievements in rally driving have left an indelible mark on the sport and have inspired many within the community.
Katie Quinn’s legacy extends beyond her racing accomplishments. Her vibrant personality, determination, and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her. As the Quinn family and the wider community mourn her loss, they also celebrate the incredible life she led and the impact she had on those around her.
