Josh Maravich Suicide: Josh Maravich Death and Obituary : Josh Maravich Dies at 42; Son of CBB, NBA Legend Pete Played at LSU from 2001-05

The Maravich family and the LSU community are mourning the loss of Josh Maravich, the son of LSU basketball legend Pistol Pete Maravich, who passed away on Friday at the age of 42. The cause of Josh's death has not been disclosed by LSU, but it was confirmed that he died in his family home in Covington, Louisiana.

Josh Maravich followed in the illustrious footsteps of his father, Pistol Pete, by joining the LSU Tigers basketball team. He played for the Tigers from 2001 to 2005 as a walk-on player. Although he did not achieve the same star status as his father, Josh was driven by a deep desire to honor his father’s legacy.

"I wanted to come here for my dad to make him proud," Josh told The Daily Reveille in 2005. "I knew I wasn't going to be a star player, but for me, being a walk-on was what I always wanted to do."

Pistol Pete Maravich, a basketball prodigy known for his incredible scoring ability and innovative playstyle, left an indelible mark on the sport. He set numerous records during his collegiate career at LSU, where he averaged an astonishing 44.2 points per game, a record that still stands.

His professional career in the NBA, though shortened by injuries, was equally impressive, earning him a place in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987. Tragically, Pete Maravich passed away from a congenital heart defect in 1988 at the age of 40 when Josh was just five years old.

The legacy of Pistol Pete Maravich has been a significant influence on Josh's life. Despite the immense pressure of living up to his father's legendary status, Josh carved out his own path, driven by a love for the game and a desire to honor his father's memory. His dedication to LSU and the sport of basketball earned him respect and admiration from teammates and fans alike.

Josh Maravich is survived by his mother, Jackie Maravich McLachlan, her husband James, and his brother Jaeson. The Maravich family has been a cornerstone of the LSU community, and Josh's passing has left a profound impact on all who knew him.

In the wake of his death, the LSU community and basketball fans across the nation reflect on the Maravich legacy. While Pistol Pete's extraordinary achievements on the court are celebrated, Josh's commitment to his father's legacy and his contributions to LSU basketball are equally honored. His story is a testament to the enduring bond between father and son, and the powerful influence of a legacy that transcends generations.

A memorial service for Josh Maravich is expected to be announced in the coming days, providing an opportunity for family, friends, and the LSU community to pay their respects and celebrate his life. As the Maravich family navigates this difficult time, they do so with the support and condolences of a community that holds their legacy close to heart.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Maravich family during this period of mourning. Josh Maravich's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and through the lasting impact of the Maravich legacy at LSU and beyond.
