Joseph George “Joe” Proctor, a cherished member of the Hillsdale, Michigan community, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Henry Ford Hospital in Jackson. He was 66 years old. Joe was born on November 18, 1957, in Hillsdale to George and Evelyn (Watkins) Proctor, who preceded him in death. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and a life filled with simple pleasures and profound connections.
Joe was a proud graduate of Hillsdale High School, where he formed many friendships and developed the work ethic that would define his career. Following his graduation, Joe dedicated 26 years of his life to DCA Stocks Mill, where he worked diligently and earned the respect of his colleagues. Known for his skilled hands and meticulous nature, Joe was a man who enjoyed working on projects in his garage, finding satisfaction in fixing and creating.
One of Joe’s greatest passions was fishing, particularly for salmon and steelhead. The tranquility of the water and the thrill of the catch brought him immense joy. Additionally, Joe was a firework enthusiast, and his fascination with pyrotechnics earned him the title of an amateur pyrotechnician. His fireworks displays were eagerly anticipated by friends and family, lighting up the night sky with vibrant colors and his infectious enthusiasm.
Joe also loved the outdoors, often spending time camping with his family and friends. These camping trips were filled with laughter, stories, and the warmth of a campfire. He was an avid NASCAR fan, never missing a race and always cheering for his favorite drivers.
Joe married the love of his life, Mary Boyer, on October 23, 2003. Together, they shared over 20 years of love, companionship, and cherished memories. Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Mary; his children, Amanda Proctor and Joe Proctor; his stepson, Eric (Karen) Boyer; and his step-grandchildren, Skyler and Kennedy, who brought great joy to his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Jim (Cynthia) Proctor and Jeff (Shirley) Proctor; his good friend, Scott Collins; and his four beloved rescue cats, who held a special place in his heart.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, George and Evelyn Proctor, and his brother, John Proctor.
A funeral service to honor and remember Joe Proctor will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. In this time of mourning, the Proctor family appreciates the support and condolences from the community.
Joe Proctor’s life was one of hard work, love for family, and simple joys. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Rest in peace, Joe. Your legacy of kindness, dedication, and passion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known you.
