Lieutenant Detective Staines began his journey with the Boston Police Department on June 26, 1996, when he was appointed as a Student Officer. Upon graduating from the Police Academy, he embarked on his career as a Probationary Officer, quickly establishing himself as a Permanent Police Officer with assignments at District C-6, the C-6 DCU Squad, District B-3, and District E-13. His exceptional skills and dedication led to his rating as a Detective in 2007, with subsequent assignment to the B-2 Detectives.

In 2010, Staines was promoted to Sergeant, where his leadership abilities flourished across various districts, including District E-18, District E-13, District B-2, and the Anti-Corruption Division. His career trajectory continued to ascend as he earned the title of Sergeant Detective in 2017. A year later, he took on a significant role in the Office of the Police Commissioner, serving as the Commander of the Dignitary Protection Unit.

Lieutenant Staines reached the rank of Lieutenant in 2020, further showcasing his leadership and dedication. His assignments spanned District B-2 and the Internal Affairs Division, where he was rated as a Lieutenant Detective. Most recently, he was entrusted with responsibilities at BIS/Office of the Chief and C-6 Detectives.

Throughout his distinguished career, Lieutenant Detective Staines received numerous commendations for his service. His contributions were recognized internally by commanders for his pivotal role in arrests, firearms recoveries, and drug seizures. His efforts in reducing crime in the community were particularly acknowledged by a commander of B-2. Additionally, he earned accolades from the Transit, Randolph, and Pittsburg Police Chiefs for his involvement in high-profile cases, including a shooting and a bank robbery, and for representing the Department at a fellow officer’s funeral.

Beyond his professional achievements, Lieutenant Detective Staines was celebrated for his acts of kindness and assistance within the community. He embodied the spirit of public service, consistently going above and beyond the call of duty to help those in need.
