Ellen Yarnell Hollidaysburg PA Suicide : Ellen Yarnell Altoona Obituary : Ellen Yarnell Dies At 19 After Mental Illness Battle

Ellen M. Yarnell, age 19, of Altoona, passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, following a brief battle with mental illness. She was born on November 7, 2004, in Altoona, the cherished daughter of Todd J. and Rebecca L. (Langenbacher) Yarnell.


Ellen is survived by her loving parents, Todd and Rebecca; her beloved brother, Isaac Yarnell; and her great-grandfather, Ron Wininger. She will be deeply missed by her papa, Michael Langenbacher, and her great-aunts, Janice Lindsey and Ronda Wininger. Ellen is also survived by her uncles, Larry and Waylon Yarnell, and her aunt, Michelle Langenbacher. 

Her cousins, Jamen, Kaleb, Grace, Michele, and Jeff Ocker, along with many other relatives and friends, will remember her kindness and infectious smile. Special friends who held a significant place in Ellen’s heart include Joelle, Rachel, Victoria, Cali, Lydia, Mrs. Clever, and Mrs. Watt.

Ellen was preceded in death by her grandparents, known affectionately as Nana, Grammy, and Pappy Yarnell; her great-grandmothers, Nancy Wininger and Betty Langenbacher; and her great-grandfather, Edgar Langenbacher.

A 2023 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, Ellen was an active participant in the band, as well as in the music and visual arts programs. She also competed on the Cross Country team, showcasing her dedication and spirit. Ellen was currently pursuing her education at I.U.P.’s Cooks Honors College, majoring in Speech and Language Pathology, a field she was passionate about.

Ellen’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was actively involved with Young Life, a testament to her deep devotion. Her hobbies included baking, embarking on outdoor adventures, and spending quality time with her family and her beloved dog, Luna.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 2-4 PM at Hick’s Methodist Church to celebrate Ellen’s life. A Celebration of Life service will follow immediately, officiated by Rev. Rich Morris.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to Young Life (PO Box 333, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648), honoring Ellen’s commitment to her faith and her community.
