On the afternoon of Sunday, May 26, 2024, at 5:39 PM, the Vidor Police Department responded to a report of a reckless vehicle. The caller described it as a maroon Yukon heading Northbound in the 1400 block of N. Main, Vidor, Texas.
Within minutes, at 5:40 PM, the caller reported a collision in the 1500 Block of North Main involving the maroon Yukon and another vehicle, a head-on impact.
Upon arrival, officers found both drivers unconscious. The driver of the southbound vehicle was found without signs of breathing. Swiftly, officers extracted her from the vehicle and initiated life-saving medical procedures.
Despite their efforts, Samantha Townsend of Orange, Texas, was declared deceased by Acadian Ambulance Service at the scene. Investigation revealed that the Yukon was speeding excessively, crossing into the southbound lane and causing the collision.
The Yukon's driver was taken to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in serious condition. A toddler, restrained in a safety seat in the southbound vehicle, was also transported to the hospital but with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Vidor PD Traffic Unit and Criminal Investigation Unit are actively investigating the collision. Justice of the Peace Rodney Price arrived at the scene to officially pronounce the victim deceased.
Out of respect for the victim's family, the vehicle's name will be disclosed on Monday, May 27, 2024, after they have been notified.
