Perth Murder Suicide : Woman and teenage girl killed by man in double murder-suicide in Perth

A tragic incident unfolded in Perth's western suburb of Floreat when a man, in search of his former partner, ended up shooting her female friend and the friend's teenage daughter before taking his own life.

The 63-year-old man arrived at the property around 4:30 PM, but his former partner was not present. Instead, he encountered a 59-year-old woman and her 18-year-old daughter. The older woman died at the scene, while the teenager, critically injured, later succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

WA Police Detective Inspector David Gorton reported that officers were called to the scene on Friday afternoon following reports of gunshots. The police arrived just as the final shot was fired, which they believe was the man taking his own life. Although the man was known to police, he did not have a history of violence.

Detective Inspector Gorton emphasized the broad impact of such a tragic event, noting its profound effect on the victims' families, friends, first responders, and the wider community. He also mentioned that the man's ex-wife and daughter are now under the care of the homicide squad and receiving support due to their distress over the incident.

Despite the connections between the individuals involved, the police are not treating the shooting as family violence-related, as the man and the mother had only met on previous occasions and were not in a relationship. The investigation into the incident continues.
