London Singapore Flight Death : Passenger dead after severe turbulence on Boeing plane flight from UK

At least one Briton has died and several other passengers have been injured after a plane from London experienced severe turbulence at around 37,000 feet.

Several of the 211 passengers and 18 crew members on the Boeing 777, operated by Singapore Airlines, sustained injuries following the rapid descent amid stormy weather. The plane made an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, where images show emergency services surrounding the jet.

Further details about the deceased passenger are yet to be confirmed. The jet had departed from London Heathrow last night, heading to Singapore Changi Airport. It encountered severe turbulence while entering a region currently experiencing extreme tropical thunderstorms. Images from inside the aircraft reveal food and debris scattered on the floor following the turbulence.

The general manager of Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport stated that the 73-year-old British man might have suffered a heart attack on board. However, no additional details about the passenger, such as his hometown in the UK, were provided at the briefing.

Ambulances were seen on the tarmac next to the plane. Local media reported that one passenger had died and around 20 others were injured, prompting the emergency landing. In total, there were 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board.

The aircraft, a Boeing 777, reached an altitude of around 37,000 feet (11,277 meters), according to data shared by aviation website FlightRadar24. The flight left London Heathrow and encountered turbulence approximately one and a half hours before its scheduled arrival in Singapore. The turbulence occurred at 3:45 PM local time amid severe thunderstorms in and around Thailand.

Meteorologists had forecasted heavy rain and thundery conditions for the region yesterday and today, which can create challenging conditions for aircraft. Despite this, Singapore Airlines has yet to comment on the cause of the extreme turbulence that led to the emergency landing.

Further details about the deceased passenger, including their age and gender, remain undisclosed at this early stage.
