After going live on Instagram on Thursday night, South African rapper J Molley caused concern among his fans. The 25-year-old was seen at an undisclosed location, surrounded by bottles of alcohol and fizzy drinks. He displayed a container of what appeared to be pain pills to the camera before swallowing them with a mouthful of soda.
This incident follows the release of his new music video for the hit song "Life or Death," which had received positive reviews. Many fans believed J Molley had turned over a new leaf after battling drug addiction, which had led to a seven-month hiatus.
He previously revealed to Drum Magazine that his struggle with addiction began at age 14. His latest video alarmed fans and sparked discussion on X (formerly Twitter) after a cryptic post about his strained relationship with his father.
A few hours later, J Molley's Instagram Live showed him taking the pills, escalating the concern. While some called for the rapper to seek help, others resorted to online bullying. In response, J Molley lashed out, saying, "Look At All The Jokes. You Wonder Why I'm About To Be Dead? It's Not Hard To Figure Out. As A Human That Has An IQ Of 156 Mensa Certified I Have To Live Amongst These People With IQ's Of 80."
His posts on X continued, mentioning that he didn’t realize it would be his last day and referring to his ex-girlfriend Shamiso Mosaka. He also wrote a lengthy message to his niece.
MTV Base presenter Shamiso Mosaka has previously opened up about her own mental health struggles. Known for her array of tattoos, she revealed that her first tattoo was intended to cover scars from self-harm, as reported by Tshisa Live.
