Alabama football student manager Caden Clay has passed away, the program announced on Wednesday afternoon. Clay, who was finishing his freshman year in Tuscaloosa, hailed from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Born in 2005, he was 18 or 19 years old.
"Alabama mourns the loss of football student manager Caden Clay,” Alabama Football said via X. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
Clay attended Prosper High School, located just under an hour north of Dallas. He played varsity football for the Eagles and participated in camps at SMU and TCU in the summer of 2022. In March 2022, he visited Oklahoma State, where he was shown around by Director of Recruiting Todd Bradford.
During Clay’s senior season, Prosper went 13-2, reaching the 6A-DI state semifinals. Following the announcement of his passing, Michigan Wolverines Director of Recruiting Sam Popper extended his condolences to Clay’s family, friends, and the Alabama program.
Popper and Clay were on opposing sidelines a few months ago in the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Rose Bowl.
“RIP Caden Clay. Thinking about everyone at @AlabamaFTBL and all my good friends there. Caden’s friends and loved ones have all of my support during this time and beyond,” Popper said via X.
During his freshman year, Clay worked under head coach Nick Saban, who completed his final season. Clay was set to continue working under Kalen DeBoer as Alabama wrapped up spring practice ahead of the 2024 season.
