The UC Davis community was shaken by the tragic loss of one of its own, as Dylan Ian Stopinski, a 20-year-old student, passed away in what Sacramento County coroner's officials have determined to be a suicide. 

The devastating incident unfolded on a somber Monday morning, when authorities received a distressing report of someone jumping from the parking structure on Kleiber Hall Drive, near the UCD fire and police departments, around 11:40 a.m.

Despite swift intervention and emergency medical efforts, Stopinski's injuries proved fatal, and they were subsequently transported to the UC Davis Medical Center, where they tragically succumbed to their injuries shortly thereafter. 


The news sent shockwaves throughout the campus community, leaving students, faculty, and staff grappling with grief and disbelief.


Stopinski, a former student of Buchanan High School in Clovis, embarked on their academic journey at UC Davis in September 2022, with aspirations of pursuing a double major in history and English. 


Their passing has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew them, as they are remembered for their intellect, warmth, and potential for a bright future.


In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, the university has mobilized resources to support students affected by Stopinski's death. Aggie Mental Health, accessible through mentalhealth.ucdavis.edu, serves as a vital lifeline, offering counseling services, support groups, and other resources to help individuals navigate the complex emotions and challenges arising from such a traumatic event. 


Additionally, the university has implemented postvention plans aimed at providing comprehensive psychological support, crisis intervention, and practical assistance to those in need.
