Early Saturday morning, a tragic accident on southbound Interstate 95 near Hollywood Boulevard in Broward County resulted in the death of a stranded driver and severe injuries to a motorcyclist.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. when a 44-year-old man, identified as Roy Hallak, found himself stuck in the center lane of the highway due to a previous crash. As he attempted to cross the busy highway from the center lane to the shoulder for safety, he was struck by a passing motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, a 28-year-old man, was unable to evade the collision and crashed into Hallak. The force of the impact caused him to lose control of his bike, leading to a violent spin before he was thrown into the air.
He sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. The extent of his injuries is severe, and his condition remains critical.
Hallak, who was known for his long tenure at Chase Bank and his recent venture into owning a mobile car wash, died at the scene. He was a beloved figure in his community, also known as “Coach Roy” for his involvement in local youth basketball.
He leaves behind a wife and two children. A GoFundMe page set up in his memory has already raised over $78,000 to support his family during this difficult time.
The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash and has yet to determine whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident or if any charges will be filed. The community mourns the loss of Hallak and supports the injured motorcyclist as both families face the aftermath of this tragic event.
