Paul Greer, a renowned portfolio manager at Fidelity International in London, known for his expertise in Turkey, Argentina, and other emerging markets, has passed away at the age of 45.
His death, which occurred on July 29, was confirmed by a Fidelity spokesperson, who did not provide additional details.
Dave McAvinchey, an investment director at Eurasia Group, paid tribute to Greer in a heartfelt LinkedIn post, highlighting their 25-year friendship and Greer's professional excellence, humility, kindness, and humor.
Greer’s recent contributions included comments on Ukraine’s international debt negotiations, with his last known professional engagement being as recent as July 22.
His loss leaves a significant void in the financial community, where he was widely respected and admired.
Greer was a 2001 graduate of Queen’s University Belfast, where he earned a degree in electrical and electronic engineering.
His career began as a rates trader at the Bank of Ireland, followed by positions at American International Group Inc. and PineBridge Investments, before he joined Fidelity.
During his 12 years at Fidelity, he evolved from a trader to a portfolio manager specializing in emerging-market debt and currencies.
In the wake of his passing, Steve Ellis, Fidelity’s global chief investment officer for fixed income, will temporarily oversee emerging market debt client assets alongside portfolio manager Eric Wong.
Fidelity expressed their deep sorrow over Greer's death, extending their condolences to his family and colleagues.
Paul Greer is survived by his wife, Jayne, and their children. His impact on both his professional field and personal relationships will be profoundly missed.
