On Thursday evening, a tragic traffic accident in Cayuga County claimed the lives of two sisters, Hailey and Shelby Trumble, who were both beloved members of the Hannibal Central School District.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Ira Hill and Farnam Road, involving two vehicles, with a third person sustaining serious injuries.
Hailey Trumble, who had graduated in 2023, and her sister Shelby Trumble, a member of the Class of 2024, were both noted for their vibrant personalities and contributions to their community.
Their loss is deeply felt across their hometown and beyond, as they were active participants in school and community life. The Hannibal Central School District expressed their profound sorrow in a letter posted on their website, emphasizing the significant impact the sisters had on their peers and the local community.
The district's statement underscored the weight of the loss, describing it as an "incredibly sad day" for students, faculty, and staff. “They touched the lives of their friends and family and this loss is unfathomable,” the letter read.
The entire community is mourning the passing of the Trumble sisters, who were seen as bright, promising individuals with a future full of potential.
Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck confirmed the incident involved two vehicles, with preliminary investigations still underway. The seriousness of the accident and the resulting injuries to a third person have added to the community’s grief and concern.
