Samson Fussner Obituary Canyon Village - Samson Fussner Death - Samson Fussner Killed In Shootout At Yellowstone National Park

Samson Lucas Bariah Fussner, 28, of Milton, Florida, was identified Monday as the individual killed in a Fourth of July shootout with Yellowstone National Park rangers, as reported by the Park County, Wyoming, Coroner's Office. 

The incident occurred at Canyon Village, located in the central region of the park, a popular destination for visitors. The altercation began when Fussner, reportedly armed and making threats, encountered multiple rangers. During the confrontation, shots were fired, resulting in Fussner's death. 

One ranger sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. As of Monday, the ranger's condition remains stable, although further updates from authorities have not been provided.


The rangers involved in the shooting have not been publicly identified. The incident caused a temporary shutdown of Canyon Village, impacting the typically busy Fourth of July weekend activities.

Fussner was believed to be an employee of Xanterra Travel Collection, the company managing concession stands and other services within the park. However, MTN News has not independently verified his employment with the company, despite reports from the Cowboy State Daily suggesting his affiliation.

The shootout has prompted an ongoing investigation led by the FBI, the National Park Service, and the Park County Sheriff's Office. The collaborative efforts aim to uncover further details surrounding the circumstances of the incident and ensure a thorough examination of the events that led to the tragic outcome.
