Jamieson Ritter Ohio Obituary - Jamieson Ritter Death - Cleveland Police Officer Jamieson Ritter Killed in Overnight Shooting June 4

A Cleveland police officer was tragically shot to death early Thursday while attempting to serve a warrant on the city’s east side.

Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd reported that the incident occurred around 1 a.m. in the Hough neighborhood.

The fallen officer, identified as 27-year-old Jamieson Ritter, was part of a team dispatched to serve De’Lawnte Hardy, 24, with a warrant for felonious assault.

The operation involved up to 10 officers. Upon arrival, Hardy was observed fleeing the residence on a bicycle.
As officers attempted to apprehend him, Hardy allegedly opened fire, striking Officer Ritter multiple times.

Despite the immediate response and efforts by fellow officers, Ritter succumbed to his injuries. Hardy was quickly taken into custody and transported to a hospital as a precautionary measure.

He is currently being held at the Cuyahoga County Justice Center on charges of aggravated murder. Details regarding Hardy's legal representation remain unclear at this time.

Officer Jamieson Ritter had served with the Cleveland Police Department for four years, earning a reputation for dedication and bravery.

Chief Todd praised Ritter and his colleagues, emphasizing the inherent dangers and sacrifices associated with law enforcement.

"Officers go out there, they work hard. They risk their lives. They risk everything they have to protect the community," Todd stated.

The loss of Officer Ritter has deeply affected the Cleveland police community and the city at large. Vigils and memorials are being organized to honor his service and sacrifice.

The incident has also reignited discussions about the risks law enforcement officers face daily and the need for continued support and protection measures for those who serve.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and authorities are determined to seek justice for Officer Ritter and his family.
