RIP: Dudu Myeni Death : Dudu Myeni Obituary and Passed Away : Former South African Airways Chairperson Duduzile Cynthia Myeni Has Died

Former SA Airways board chairperson Dudu Myeni has passed away.

The Jacob Zuma Foundation made the announcement on Saturday afternoon.

"The foundation confirms with a heavy heart that its chairperson, Dudu Myeni, passed on last night. The family is still dealing with these sad developments and will not be entertaining any media enquiries."

Duduzile "Dudu" Cynthia Myeni (born 29 October 1963 - 14 June 2024) was a prominent South African businesswoman and former chairperson of South African Airways SOC Limited. She also served as the executive chairperson of the Jacob Zuma Foundation from September 2008 until her passing.

Myeni's tenure at South African Airways was marked by significant controversy. She was known for her close association with former President Jacob Zuma, which drew substantial public and media scrutiny.

During the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into state capture, former Bosasa chief operating officer Angelo Agrizzi testified that Myeni had received monthly illicit payments of R300,000 from Bosasa. These payments were allegedly intended for former President Zuma. This testimony highlighted the extent of Myeni's involvement in the state capture scandal, which had far-reaching implications for South Africa's political and business landscape.

In addition to her involvement in the state capture inquiry, Myeni faced legal challenges. On 27 May 2020, at the Pretoria High Court, Judge Ronel Tolmay declared Myeni a Delinquent Director. This ruling banned her for life from holding any directorship position, significantly impacting her career and reputation.

At the end of May 2024, Myeni was unable to attend her corruption pre-trial hearing due to undergoing chemotherapy. Her battle with illness was private, and her passing has left her family and associates in mourning.

Myeni's life and career were characterized by significant influence and controversy. Her close ties with Zuma and her role in state capture have left an indelible mark on South Africa's corporate and political history.
