Osman Said Jimale Obituary : Osman Said Jimale Death : Osman Said Jimale Died : Civilian killed in south Minneapolis mass shooting identified

The civilian shot and killed in a mass shooting in Minneapolis on Thursday evening has been identified as Osman Said Jimale.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirmed Friday that Jimale, 32, died from multiple gunshot wounds. He was killed inside an apartment complex on the 2200 block of Blaisdell Avenue South, where another person was also injured, according to police.

Officers responded to a shots fired call around 5:15 p.m. During the incident, a Minneapolis police officer, Jamal Mitchell, was aiding someone when that individual shot him. Mitchell was transported to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries, with the cause of death determined to be multiple gunshot wounds.

Minneapolis police then shot and killed the suspect at the scene.

While searching the apartment complex, officers discovered Jimale, who might have been a resident. Outside, a man was found shot inside his vehicle. A Minneapolis firefighter also sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was hospitalized but released shortly thereafter.

Prior to the shooting, WCCO reported that the suspected gunman was seen assaulting a person on a scooter. A driver witnessed the altercation and, while trying to escape, struck the suspect with his vehicle. The driver then heard gunshots and called the police once he reached a safe location.
