The Anopolsky family, along with the Washington University in St. Louis community, is mourning the untimely death of Maya Anopolsky, a vibrant and promising student, who passed away at the age of 21.

Maya was born and raised in Bethesda, Maryland. From a young age, she exhibited a keen intellect and a passion for learning. She attended Walt Whitman High School, where she excelled academically and was actively involved in various extracurricular activities, including the debate team and the school’s theater productions. Her enthusiasm and dedication earned her numerous accolades and the respect of her peers and teachers.

In 2021, Maya began her studies at Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Environmental Studies. She quickly became an integral part of the university community. Maya was known for her sharp mind, compassionate heart, and a strong sense of justice. 

She was an advocate for environmental sustainability and social justice, and she participated in several campus organizations that reflected her commitment to making a positive impact on the world.

Maya’s friends and professors remember her as a bright and driven individual who was always willing to lend a hand and offer support. She was an excellent student, consistently making the Dean’s List, and she had aspirations of attending law school to further her goal of effecting change in environmental policy.

Outside of her academic pursuits, Maya had a love for the arts. She enjoyed painting, music, and theater, often attending local performances and exhibitions. She was also an avid traveler, having visited numerous countries and embracing different cultures with an open heart and mind.

The news of Maya’s passing has left her family, friends, and the Washington University community in profound grief. Maya's family describes her as a loving daughter and sister whose bright spirit and generous nature touched everyone she met. Her untimely death is a tremendous loss to all who knew her.

The university has extended its condolences to Maya's family and is offering support services to students affected by her passing. A memorial service is being planned on campus to honor her memory, with details to be announced soon.

In lieu of flowers, Maya's family has requested that donations be made to environmental organizations or social justice causes, reflecting her passions and commitment to making the world a better place.
