Tragic news has struck the Gila River Indian Community as a shooting incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday morning, leaving devastation in its wake. At approximately 2 a.m. on June 1, chaos erupted in Santan, located within District 4 of the community, as a disturbance escalated into a scene of horror.
Responding to reports of the disturbance, Gila River Police officers found themselves confronted by a large crowd and the terrifying sound of gunfire. Amidst the chaos, six individuals, including two officers, were struck by bullets in the hail of gunfire.
Tragically, Officer Joshua Briese, a dedicated member of the Gila River Police force, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Officer Briese, who had served with the department for less than a year and was still undergoing training, leaves behind a grieving community and colleagues mourning his loss. Another officer remains in serious but stable condition, fighting bravely against the injuries sustained in the line of duty.
Adding to the sorrow, one additional individual was pronounced dead at the scene, their identity yet to be disclosed.
In the wake of this heartbreaking incident, the Gila River Police Department issued a statement expressing condolences and solidarity with the affected officers, their families, and all impacted by the tragedy. "Our hearts and prayers are with these police officers, their families, and everyone impacted by this tragic incident," the department solemnly conveyed.
