The Gilmer County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Attorney George W. Weaver at the age of 82. Mr. Weaver succumbed to a courageous battle with leukemia on June 27, 2024. 

His death marks the end of a remarkable career and a life dedicated to the pursuit of justice and the betterment of his community.


George W. Weaver’s professional journey was distinguished and impactful. He notably served as the first District Attorney of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit, which includes Gilmer, Fannin, and Pickens counties, starting in 1983. 

In this pioneering role, Weaver set a high standard for integrity and dedication in the legal profession, earning widespread respect and admiration from his colleagues, law enforcement, and the citizens he served.

Sheriff Nicholson and the staff of the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office extend their heartfelt condolences to Weaver's wife, Chief Superior Court Judge Brenda Weaver. 

The Weavers’ partnership, both personal and professional, has left an indelible mark on the Appalachian Judicial Circuit. Brenda Weaver’s esteemed career on the bench has been complemented by her husband’s steadfast commitment to the legal system, forming a legacy of judicial excellence and community service.
