LAKE ELSINORE, CA — A 9-year-old girl died Sunday following a crash at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park.
Brooke Carlton of Vista was pronounced dead at Inland Valley Hospital in Wildomar approximately 80 minutes after the incident, which occurred at 10:04 AM at the track located at 20700 Cereal Street, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau.
"Yesterday the good Lord called our dear Brooke Lily to heaven after a freak accident at a local motocross track," the family said in a GoFundMe post.
"Our entire family is still trying to understand why our Brookie, but we firmly believe that God needed her and called her home to be with him. While we take this time to be with our family, PLEASE lift our family into your thoughts and prayers, and hold your loved ones a little tighter for us as we try to navigate through this sudden hurdle in our lives. We love you always and forever Brooke Lily #irideforbrooke."
In the post, Brooke is pictured riding her small dirt bike, dressed in hot pink and purple safety gear.
"For those who knew Brooke, she was an absolute sweetheart who could brighten anyone’s day with her warm smile and bright blonde halo of curls," the GoFundMe organizer wrote.
"For those who REALLY knew Brooke, she was a total spitfire who knew what she wanted and would not be swayed. One look at her glittering eyes and toothy smile and she could convince you that the sky was indeed pink and purple, and that you should 'buy her an ice cream' because of it. She loved her parents, her dog Gunner, her grandparents, and most of all, her brother Landon."
As of Monday morning, the GoFundMe effort had raised over $8,700 for the Carlton family.
The Lake Elsinore Sheriff's Station is still investigating the crash. Further details from the agency are pending. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
