On Friday at 4:33 p.m., Saline County 911 received several reports of an active shooter in the 1200 block of Crestline Drive in Crete, Nebraska. Crete Police and Saline County Deputies quickly responded to the scene and arrived within minutes, where they heard ongoing gunfire.
The officers found several victims inside a home, with shots being fired from a house directly across the street. The shooting resulted in seven people being shot, including four children aged 3 to 10 years old and three adults aged 22 to 43 years old.
Six of the victims were initially transported to Crete Area Medical Center, while the seventh victim was identified hours later. Among the injured, four have been treated and released, while three remain hospitalized.
Two of the hospitalized victims are at Children’s Hospital in Omaha, and one is at Bryan Health West Campus in Lincoln. Fortunately, all injuries are currently considered non-life-threatening.
The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) SWAT Team was activated to handle the situation. At 6:40 p.m., they entered the suspect's home at 1810 Parkland Street, where they found 74-year-old Billy Booth deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
A shotgun, believed to be the sole weapon used in the incident, was found nearby. At the time of the shooting, approximately 15 people were present at the victims’ residence.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities have expressed their gratitude to all first responders and medical staff involved for their swift and effective response.
The community remains in shock as they process the tragic events, but the swift actions of law enforcement and medical personnel have helped to manage the aftermath and ensure that those injured receive the care they need.
